Brownie Fudge
This recipe makes a huge batch of fudge-topped brownies-enough for a
crowd!
4 (1oz. each) squares unsweetened chocolate...........1 C. flour
1 C. butter or margarine...........................................1 C. chopped walnuts
2 C. sugar................................................................2 t. vanilla
4 eggs......................................................................Fudge Topping (recipe follows)
Melt chocolate & butter in a heavy small saucepan over low heat, stirring till completely melted; cool. Beat sugar & eggs in a large bowl till light & fluffy. Gradually whisk chocolate mixture into egg mixture. Stir in flour, nuts & vanilla. Spread batter evenly into a buttered 13x9" pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 35 minutes or just until set. Do not overbake. Prepare Fudge Topping while brownies are baking.
Fudge Topping:
4-1/2 C. sugar.......................................................1 (12oz.) package semisweet chocolate chips
1/3 C. butter or margarine......................................1 (12oz.) package milk chocolate chips
1 (12oz.) can evaporated milk................................2 t. vanilla
1 (7oz.) jar marshmallow creme.............................2 C. walnuts, coarsely chopped
Combine sugar, butter, & milk in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; add remaining ingredients except walnuts. Beat till smooth- then stir in walnuts.
Remove brownies from oven when set. Immediately pour topping evenly over hot brownies. Cool in pan on wire rack. Place in freezer just till firm. Cut into 1" squares. Yield: about 9 dozen brownies.
