Here's a little info...

Well, let's see... I'm in my mid-early 40's & living in a small town in Northwestern Illinois. 

I've been enjoying making & selling cakes here locally for the last 13 years or so, and doing a 'big' showy cake a couple of times each year- One for my local County Fair, and one for some ICES conventions. Lately, my life has taken one of those unexpected turns, and I find myself going back to being a bench jeweler (I did it before for about 10 years or so). I will be making, setting & repairing fine jewelery at a lovely store in Moline, IL.     

Other than cooking, I enjoy gardening, both vegetable & flowers (some friends will say I'm obsessed, we'll see). Since I have lived in this house, I've really been spending a lot of time & energy on improving my little slice of America. I've planted countless trees & bushes, evergreens for winter viewing, An extensive vegetable garden- which I also enjoy canning the pickings of- & flowers, flowers, flowers! In 2001, I added a pond with a streambed-- All in a little in-town yard. The house is a 100 year old foursquare-style home, that I'm working on restoring/ fixing up the interior (in my free time, ha!). In May 2002, it was our town's featured Home Tour for the Country Lanes Festival, and in June the yard was on the Garden Tour. About 120 visitors signed the Guestbook, even though it was stinkin' hot all day. My favorite holiday is Halloween- I live in a community where it's still safe to let your kids trick-or-treat, so I get loads of goblins at the door! I love to decorate my yard & porch real spooky, if I hear from one parent that they had to talk their child into coming to the door, I've succeeded in my mission. Another hobby I've picked up is making stained glass pieces- I love it!

I have a few collections- Moons & Stars, Cows in the kitchen (last count, somewhere around 220), kaleidoscopes, green or cobalt blue glass things, Fiestaware (I inherited my Grandmother's!), and I seem to be getting into old chairs for some unknown reason. I also have too many coats- I can't imagine where that obsession came from. Shells, I've always loved shells. And, I have bottles of sun from lots of places- either that I've been, or friends have gotten for me. I recently started a new collection, of Hall kitchenware & dinnerware in the Crocus pattern.

Let's see, what else? I have 3 cats, who I have to admit are a teeny bit spoiled. I also seem to attract small children along with cats- no matter where I've lived, I've been adopted by neighborhood kids wanting to help me in the yard & stuff. I figure, OK, they can't do too much harm & may learn something they'll use later, perhaps even remember I'm the one that taught them.

Well, that's pretty much it in a nutshell- just a regular gal in mid-America!
