That's just not nice.

Our Nephew, Alex, has most always requested a sports-themed cake for his birthday. For his 12th, I told him that it was MY turn to pick out his birthday cake. I've been wanting to do this faux spaghetti & meatballs cake since one of the Gals in my Cake Club demonstrated it years ago. It was SO fun to do, and even easier than fun. The hardest part was getting an accurate color on the buttercream for the noodles! (Ivory, Golden Yellow & Daffodil Yellow pastes, FYI)
So- there's a small one layer oval cake under that pile of buttercream icing spaghetti. I iced it lightly so no cake would show thru. The noodles are squeezed out of a tip #4, and I just kept going round & round the cake to cover it & pile it up. The sauce is a combination of my homemade tomato jelly & strawberry/rhubarb jam with a few sesame seeds thrown in for effect. The meatballs are big, honkin' truffles that I added chopped pecans to the coating chocolate so it would be bumpy. Then, as a finishing touch, I grated almond bark over the top.
I tell you, this was a fun, quick cake!
