Black Walnut Cake

Cake:
1 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups white sugar
5 eggs
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped black walnuts

Frosting:
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/4 cup butter
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped black walnuts

Directions:
1> Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a tube pan.
2> In a large bowl, cream 1 cup butter, shortening, brown sugar, and white sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt, and add alternately with milk to the creamed mixture. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup black walnuts. Pour batter into prepared pan.
3> Bake for 90 minutes. Remove from oven, and cool completely.
4> In a mixing bowl, cream together cream cheese and 1/4 cup butter. Add confectioners' sugar, beat well. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Frost cooled cake, and sprinkle with 1/2 cup nuts.
