Goblin Goo Cake
1 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. pecans
1 c. dates
grated orange peel of 2 oranges
1/2 lb. orange slices, (gumdrop) cut up (15)
Grate peel of 2 oranges. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time.
Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk. Fold dates, nuts,
orange peel and slices (cut up rather large). Pour into 10-inch greased tube
pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour. Cool. Pour sauce (recipe below) over cake
and let stand overnight.
Sauce: Add 1 1/2 cup sugar to pulp and juice of 3 oranges; bring to a boil and
simmer until pulp is transparent. Note: Good for Halloween!
