Spicy Halloween Cookies

1 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. soda

Cream sugar, shortening, molasses and egg; mix in remaining ingredients until blended. Mold into balls the size of a small egg. Roll in sugar and flatten with a glass bottom. Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool slightly and remove from cookie sheet. Decorate with Lifesavers and candy corn, and icing to make a pumpkin face.
