Orange-Almond Bars


2 C. flour
1/3 C. sugar
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 C. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 C. almonds
2/3 C. sugar
1 Tbsp. orange rind
1/2 C. orange juice
1 Tbsp. lemon juice

Cream butter and 1/3 cup sugar. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to butter and sugar mixture; Blend well. Roll out half of dough into a 13 x 9-inch greased pan. Combine almonds, sugar, orange rind, orange juice and lemon juice. Spread over dough in pan. Place remaining dough over filling;  Prick generously with fork. Bake in moderate 375 degrees oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from oven; frost immediately with Orange Icing. When cool, cut into bars.

Orange Icing:
1-1/2 C. powdered sugar
1 tsp. grated orange rind
2-1/2 Tbsp. orange juice
Combine orange juice and grated orange rind. Add powdered sugar. Spread on Orange Almond Bars while warm.
